Manjiri Akalkotkar, AIA


 Manjiri Akalkotkar, AIA is Vice President of Program Delivery for VIA Metropolitan Transit in San Antonio, Texas. In this role, she is responsible for Strategic Planning, Capital Program Planning and Implementation, Engineering, Passenger Amenities, and Real Estate acquisition and management.

Manjiri leads VIA’s Advance Rapid Transit (ART) project planning and implementation for the agency under its voter-approved Keep San Antonio Moving plan. Manjiri and her team also led the design and implementation of VIA’s innovative, on-demand mobility service, VIA Link. In her previous role, she oversaw the agency’s Service Planning and Scheduling departments from 2018 to 2022.

Manjiri currently serves as Vice Chair of the Transportation Research Board’s Steering Committee on Transportation in the Developing World and is Co-Chair of the Environmental Justice/Title VI Subcommittee under the American Public Transportation Association’s Planning, Policy, and Program Development Committee. She is also Chair of Community Information Now (CI: NOW)—a local nonprofit dedicated to the democratization of data. She serves on American Public Transportation Foundation Board.

Manjiri is a graduate of Leadership San Antonio Class 45 (2020) and was a San Antonio Business Journal “40 under 40” honoree in 2006.

Manjiri was an Associate Professor for the School of Planning / Center of Excellence in Urban Transport at CEPT University from 2009 to 2014.  Manjiri is a licensed architect and has worked on numerous architecture and transit projects in the United States and India over the past 30 years. She earned a Master of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Architecture from Poona University, India.
