MARCH 17, 2022 – UTSA’s Margie and Bill Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design (Klesse College) is proud to announce the establishment of the Bexar Chapter: Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) Endowed Scholarship in recognition of their generous gift of $26,500.

The Bexar Chapter of TSPE decided to start this endowed scholarship at UTSA to give back and support the region in which its members serve. Preference for this scholarship will be given to those who graduated from a high school in one of the following counties: Bexar, Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Dimmit, Edwards, Frio, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, Kinney, La Salle, Maverick, McMullen, Medina, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, Wilson, or Zavala. The endowed gift will support one scholarship in the first academic year, with intention to expand opportunities in the future.

“The funds raised during Engineers Week events every year are used for college scholarships,” said Bruna Spengler , Director 2 of TSPE’s Bexar Chapter. “In the past, we would interview high school seniors and give out scholarships to brilliant students, but very often they end up out-of-state. To make an impact locally, the TSPE Bexar Chapter Board decided to create an Endowed Scholarship at UTSA. We plan on growing this scholarship and be able to award it to many students in the years to come. We are excited to make an impact to engineering students that are from Bexar and neighboring Counties, and we believe this will strengthen our Chapter in the future. Our main goal is to encourage these students to become Professional Engineers and get involved with TSPE after college.”

“On behalf of Klesse College, I wish to thank TSPE for their investment in our students,” said JoAnn Browning , dean of Klesse College. “Connections such as this scholarship provide clear pathways to professional success to our students, many of which will likely practice locally upon graduation.”

The Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) is a state society affiliated with the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). The mission of TSPE is to promote the ethical, competent and licensed practice of engineering, and to enhance the professional, social and economic well being of its members.
