Design Week Charrette Competition

Design Week Charrette Competition

Design Week at Klesse College is a weeklong event, hosted by the Klesse Student Advisory Council, that focuses on celebrating Interior Design and Architecture students while also providing them with unique opportunities to enhance skills and ways to connect with experienced professionals.

Throughout the week, there were a myriad of events planned for students to attend and engage with. From team-based multi-stage design competitions to birdhouse construction challenges, the events held were perfect opportunities for students to express their creativity and have fun with fellow like-minded students.

The Design Charrette Competition was put on by the International Interior Design Association UTSA Branch and saw students forming teams and testing their skills against others in a friendly competition to see which teams could collaborate well to produce the best designs.

Other events, such as the portfolio review session and the mentor happy hour, helped give students valuable insights on how to engage with professionals in the fields they are interested in and further helped them learn how to structure their work in a way that is appealing to hiring firms.

Overseen by the International Interior Design Association UTSA Branch, the portfolio review session encouraged students to bring in their portfolios for rounds of annotation, feedback, and guidance for students looking to polish up their presentations.

The mentor happy hour, hosted by the UTSA branch of NOMAS, the National Organization of Minority Architecture Students, allowed students to book appointments with visiting representatives from prominent firms in San Antonio. Students could then meet with their representatives to receive tips and advice firsthand from experienced architects.

Between these tremendous learning and collaborative experiences, events such as the origami seminar and the recycling art installation gave students a relaxing and friendly space to showcase their creativity.

“Our Downtown Campus was a hub of creativity, passion, and innovation as our architecture and interior design students were recognized and celebrated. Design Week was a great success due to the amazing collaboration of KSAC, faculty, staff, and our many participating student organizations.” - Andrea Gonzales De La Cruz
