Katelyn Trevino, UTSA Construction Science Management 2024

Grateful for all of the resources and opportunities available to her through UTSA, Katelyn Trevino graduates with a degree in Construction Science Management (CSM). After choosing her field, Katelyn was pleasantly surprised to see just how tight of a community UTSA is. Once she learned how many resources and different paths she could access, she adopted a just-go-for-it attitude that helped her achieve great success and land a full-time job right after graduation. Read the full Q&A with Katelyn to learn about her journey and what her advice is for future Roadrunners.

 

What made you decide to attend UTSA? 

I chose UTSA because it's the perfect midpoint between my two families in Houston and Edinburg, Texas, allowing me to stay connected to both. Moreover, the welcoming and encouraging environment at UTSA made me confident that it's the right place for me to thrive academically and personally.

 

When did you figure out what you wanted to study in college?

I discovered my passion for my chosen field during my freshman year when we were tasked with researching careers aligned with our interests. Initially drawn to architecture, I stumbled upon Construction Science & Management during my exploration. It immediately resonated with me, blending my strengths and interests seamlessly. The more I delved into it, the more convinced I became that it was the perfect fit for my academic and career aspirations.

 

What did you enjoy most about your experience at UTSA? 

I cherished the vibrant sense of community at UTSA. Whether it was actively participating in various student organizations, cheering on our teams at games, or simply spending quality time with friends, every moment was enriched by the lively campus atmosphere and the bonds forged within it.

 

What have you learned, in your time at UTSA, that surprised you the most?

I was genuinely surprised by the number of resources available to students at UTSA. Despite my efforts to explore and take advantage of them all, I was continually amazed by the sheer breadth and depth of support and opportunities provided by the university, ensuring that every student has the tools they need to succeed.

 

Do you have any goals or plans after graduation?

I do! I've accepted a full-time position as a project engineer with Nunnelly General Contracting, where I interned for a year. I'm excited to apply the knowledge and skills I've gained at UTSA to real-world projects and continue to grow in my career in the construction industry. 

 

What advice do you have for people considering the programs at UTSA?

My advice for people considering the programs at UTSA is simple: Go for it! You never know what opportunities await until you take that first step. UTSA offers a diverse range of programs and resources to support your academic and personal growth, so don't hesitate to explore and pursue your passions.

 

What is your life motto/ slogan? 

"If you quit now...you'll end up right back where you first began. And when you first began, you were desperate to be where you are RIGHT NOW. KEEP GOING!"
