Read the full interview down below.

What made you decide to attend UTSA?

BW: Growing up in Mexico I had heard about UTSA. When the right time came to research colleges UTSA was a natural right choice for their great programs and their proximity to home.

What did you enjoy most about your experience at UTSA?

BW: There were great moments all around. Making friends out of my fellow students, college life adventures, and incredible school trips, but above all I enjoyed the learning experience the most. There were a few key professors that I could say pivoted my career and enabled me to fall in love with Architecture, setting a course for the rest of my life.

How did your education at UTSA prepare you for your career?

BW: Many question if the curriculum should be more technical and closely related to the real practice of architecture, others argue that it is the student’s time to learn to be creative and challenge the status quo by focusing on design. I believe that my education in UTSA did both. By learning the basics of the practice and focusing on thinking beyond the limits imposed in front of me, my education armed me with all the tools needed to step into my career and feel a sense of belonging. There was, and there still is, much to learn, but I have always felt equipped for the challenge.

Did you have any mentors or friendships that developed while you were a student and made a profound impact on your future?

BW: I had many professors that had a profound impact on me. I truly believe that they are the soul of UTSA College of Architecture, and the reason why so many of us love our Alma mater. There was one professor in particular that I will always remember fondly because he saw potential in me and pushed me to be better. He did not let me have the easy A, and because of this, he helped me become a better version of myself.

What advice would you give current students preparing to enter the workforce?

BW: Work hard, be passionate, be prepared. Be the person who solves problems, not the person who creates them. Love what you do, and it will love you back.

 What is your life slogan?
BW: Happiness is a choice.
