What made you decide to attend UT San Antonio?
I believe the Lord ultimately led me to UT San Antonio. Coming from community college and UH previously, I really wanted a university with strong resources and opportunities that I could take full advantage of. Additionally, I was drawn to UTSA’s intentional support for transfer students; this made UTSA seem even more welcoming to me. Being located in an urban city was a huge plus to me too!
Did you have any experience with your field before starting at Klesse College? If not, what inspired you to pursue a career in your field?
I did not have experience in my field before attending Klesse College. What inspired me to pursue a career in Chemical Engineering would be my interest in chemistry since taking it in high school and my love for science and math. I am attentive to detail and enjoy solving detail oriented problems. It also helps that this field can involve speaking to others often as I commonly enjoy communicating with others, helping teams, and meeting new people.
What did you enjoy most about your experience at UT San Antonio?
I enjoyed the opportunity to serve as Fundraising Chair, External Vice President of the Society of Women Engineers, and as a Student Ambassador of the Klesse College of Engineering and Integrated Design. These positions have presented to me invaluable opportunities and have taught me a lot about growing as a professional, working with a diverse team, and managing projects. I enjoyed being involved, making friends, and giving back through professional development workshops, volunteering, and more.
What have you learned, in your time at UT San Antonio, that surprised you the most?
Something that surprised me the most at UT San Antonio was the amount of support and dedication Klesse offers to student organizations. It was extremely helpful to have faculty alongside you and available to you as a sounding board while putting on professional on-campus events. I did not have that type of support at my previous university so I was very grateful to have and witness the help.
What are your goals or plans after graduation?
My goals after graduation are to start my career in industry, learn which industries peak my interest the most, and understand what it means to be a highly sought-after chemical engineer. I would also like to further my education and acquire an MBA by God’s grace.
What advice do you have for people considering the programs at UT San Antonio?
Take advantage of every opportunity that peaks your interest and makes sense for your schedule. There is a lot of value in growing yourself professionally. I highly recommend joining a student organization and going for elected positions as it is one way to make yourself more marketable to recruiters and well-rounded as a student. Reach out to contacts for help and/or guidance, enjoy your time at UT San Antonio, and remain grateful.
What is your life motto/ slogan?
Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. Psalms 23:4.
Who helped you get to today?
The Lord Jesus Christ and my parents. I have been blessed to have an awesome support system through them. I also believe that the many great teachers, professors, classmates, friends, and tutors I have had along the way have been vital in providing positivity, aid, and motivation in helping me get to this point. I am eternally grateful!
