Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does my child need to provide a conduct report? If my child is a returning student, do they need to provide one? 
  • Yes, all students applying to PREP are required to submit a conduct report. Student will need to receive a signed letter from an administrator at their campus stating that they do not have any current or past disciplinary issues.

Example: 

To Whom It May Concern, 

(Student Name), a student at (School Name), has not had any disciplinary incidents during the 2022-2023 school year (or at any point while she has been a student at (School Name).

  • What campus will my child be assigned to?
    • Campus assignments are contingent on district requests. 
    • Mary’s University will only have Level 3. All other levels will be at one of the three campuses (UTSA Main/Downtown and Texas A&M San Antonio). Campus assignments will be announced closer to the start of the program.
  • Where is the drop off/pick up location for students? 
    • Transportation is provided by some school districts, please check with your child’s school district to inquire if they provide transportation. 
    • Students will be dropped off/picked up at designated location; parents will be provided with specifics at orientation.

  • Where can my child receive their transcripts/grades
    • Students can request a transcript from their school’s main office and a copy of the report card can be accessed through the school’s parent portal. Screen shots of the grades are accepted.
    • If a child is applying to level 1, no transcript is required, only report cards.
    • If a child is applying to levels 2-5, a transcript will be required for PREP staff to determine if prerequisites have been met.
  • After your child completes the PREP program, transcripts can be requested on the PREP website under the tab forms & resources. Transcript requests are completed within 4-8 weeks.
  • PREP is not a credit granting institution, CTE elective credit is only allowed at the school district’s discretion.

  • What grade does the student have to be in? 
    • We accept students currently in 6th grade (uprising 7th graders) to 11th grade. 
  • How much is the program? Are there opportunities for costs to be covered? 
    • The cost is $500 per student; payments are due in full by May 15th. Ryzer does charge a credit card fee. To avoid this fee, checks can be mailed to:

    • Some school districts cover partial or full cost at their discretion. Please ask the school counselor or administration.
  • What are the internship opportunities?
    • PREP now consists of Level 5. Students must meet the requirements to participate in Level 5 (prerequisites) and priority is given to prior PREP students.
  • When will my child be notified of their acceptance into the program? 
    • Parents will be notified through email by March 14th. Please add us to your mailing list to avoid PREP messages being sent to spam folder: prep@utsa.edu

  • How many absences are allowed? 
    • Per TEA, only 2 absences are allowed for the entirety of the program.If a student is absent more than twice, the student will not receive TEA credit. Students will not be provided make up work.
