Project Description

Urban trees provide multiple benefits to communities, offering amenities that improve both physical and mental health as well as green infrastructure that lowers urban heat and infiltrates rainfall runoff. For homeowners, trees are one of the few components of a home that retain value over time.  This applied research project examines the relative success of the City of San Antonio’s existing EquiTree program, which provides free street trees. This research identifies the spatial distribution of current respondents to determine the socioeconomic characteristics of communities that are interested in receiving a free tree. It next conducts a survey of potential residents of interest, including those who dropped out during the second point of contact. The research will conclude by making recommendations about how to increase the positive impact of the tree-planting program.
