Project Description

Freeport, Texas, a coastal city in Brazoria County with 10,696 residents, is undergoing a significant transformation. Established in 1912 by the Freeport Sulphur Company, it is now home to Dow Chemical Company's Texas Operations facility.

The Center for Urban and Regional Planning Research will work with Freeport residents to develop a Comprehensive Downtown project that addresses economic development, land use, zoning, infrastructure, and environmental concerns. A key part of this initiative is the creation of Historic District Guidelines, bridging the city's architectural heritage with its future vision. These guidelines will involve the community, guiding decisions and inspiring action.
