The School of Architecture + Planning offers students the opportunity to participate in a semester abroad in Urbino, Italy, through a partnership with the UTSA Global Study Center Italy. It is a part of the degree requirement of Signature Experience for all undergraduate architecture and interior design students. Located in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage city, students continue their degree progression while immersing themselves in the rich architectural, cultural, and artistic traditions of Italy.

Students enrolled in the Urbino semester complete a full academic program while living abroad. Courses are taught by School of Architecture + Planning faculty alongside Italian architects and instructors, creating a learning environment that combines international perspectives with the school's curriculum. Studio instruction extends beyond the classroom, allowing students to engage directly with historic urban environments, public spaces, architecture, and natural as well as cultural Landscapes.

The semester abroad typically spans approximately 90 days and is coordinated in partnership with the University's Global Initiatives team. Students would be notified about the logistical process and detail as the school assigns their placement in their third and fourth year.
Urbino is a historic hill town located in Italy's Marche region. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its Renaissance architecture, walkable streets, and vibrant University of Urbino student population. The city offers an immersive environment where learning extends into everyday life. The program is housed in an important modern architectural complex designed by Giancarlo De Carlo, one of the most important Italian architects of 20th century, just outside of historic center.
Students are housed in university-supported accommodations throughout the city. Depending on availability, housing may include renovated historic buildings, student dormitory facilities on modern, or other approved accommodations. Students should expect shared living arrangements and communal spaces that encourage interaction with peers.
One of the highlights of the Urbino semester is the opportunity to experience Italy beyond the classroom. Program activities traditionally include organized field trips to significant cultural and architectural destinations, giving students firsthand exposure to historic sites, museums, cities, and landscapes that have shaped the built environment in Italy for centuries.
The destinations of long field trips include the cities of Rome, Venice, and Milan.
