Interior design students are encouraged to join allied student organizations including:
These organizations offer opportunities for students to network with peers and professionals and engage in practice-related activities such as seminars, continuing education programs, lectures, fundraisers, and community outreach opportunities.
United States Green Building Council (USGBC) Students encourages students from any discipline to come together to learn about and promote green building practices. We are transforming the way buildings and communities are designed, built, and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life. We aim to be in the words of Steven Moore, “transdisciplinary” and — as such — membership is open to any student. We welcome you. We can improve designs, implementations, building practices, technologies, and professional practices.
Design students at UTSA can join and participate in the International Interior Design Association, and the student chapter of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA Campus Center). UTSA’s IIDA Campus Center was the first student chapter established in Texas. Its aim is to foster camaraderie among peers and serve as the nucleus of the students’ networking for internships and professional careers.
Tau Sigma Delta (Honor Society in Architecture and Allied Arts of Design) was organized in 1913 and serves as the honor society in Architecture and allied Arts, including Landscape Architecture and Interior Design. The Tau Omega Chapter at UTSA was formed in 2003 and celebrates excellence in scholarship for students in nationally accredited programs of architecture, interior design, and related disciplines. Membership is by invitation only and is limited to students with high academic standing in junior, senior, and graduate years of study. Each year the chapter leadership reviews student achievement and invites students with high GPAs and within the top 20 percent of their class into the honor society.
